Teenage boy dies after scaling shopping centre roof

The boy was rescued from the roof of South Lake shopping centre on Berrigan Drive.

A teenage boy has died after cutting open his thigh while climbing onto a shopping centre roof in Perth.

Police and an ambulance were called about 5:20am after reports that the 16-year-old boy was stuck on the roof of the South Lake shopping centre, on Berrigan Drive, with a serious laceration to his thigh.

WA Police said two of his friends climbed onto the roof to assist him before calling emergency services.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services personnel helped get the young man down to the ground.

The teenager was taken to the nearby Fiona Stanley Hospital but died a short time after his arrival.

WA Police say they will prepare a report for the coroner.
