Teenage boy arrested after two women, aged 79 and 61, mugged in Bolton

A teenager has been arrested after a number of muggings in Breightmet.

A 79-year-old woman and a 61-year-old woman both had their handbags stolen in separate incidents last week.

Police were called to Bury Road last Wednesday (1st April) following reports that a 79-year-old woman had been wrestled to the ground, before having her bag taken.

Two days later, police were called to nearby Deepdale Road, after a 61-year-old woman reported having her handbag snatched from her hand.

A 17-year-old boy has now been arrested and remains in police custody, as of Wednesday morning.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police's Bolton North division said: "Police investigating a couple of bag snatches in Breightmet have made an arrest.

"On Wednesday 1st April 2020, police received reports that’s a 79-year-old woman had been pulled to the ground and had her handbag stolen on Bury Road, Breightmet.

"On Friday 3rd April 2020, police received reports that a 61-year-old woman had had her handbag snatched from her hand on Deepdale Road, Breightmet.

"Today, (Wednesday 8th April 2020), officers from the Bolton West Neighbourhood Team have arrested a 17-year-old male in relation to these matters. He remains in police custody for questioning."
