Teenage boy 'afraid to leave the house' after being mugged while walking home in Co Cork

A young boy is afraid to leave the house after he was mugged while walking home in Co Cork on Saturday.

The 14-year-old was walking back from the cinema shortly after 10pm on the Glenheights Road in the Dublin Hill area, when he was approached by a young man.

The robber demanded he hand over his phone and other belongings before he fled in a car that was driving past, Cork Beo reports.

The victim's mother said: "He walked his friend home by Daybreak after the pictures and the guy came up behind my son and said 'give me what you have'.

"So he searched him and took his adidas hat and his iPhone as well as €4.20 from his pocket.

"Then a car came along and the lad jumped into the car and threw the phone on the ground, my son picked it up and ran home, he couldn’t even breathe with the fright he got.

"I went to Mayfield Garda station and made a complaint.

"It's not the first time the guy approached my son, now he is terrified to go out over it, so much bullying going on it’s absolutely scary."

The alleged mugger is also believed to be a teenager around the ages of 14 or 15.

Gardai have been contacted for comment on the incident.
