Teen who went to hospital with 'appendicitis' came back with a surprise new-born baby

A teenager who went to the hospital with suspected appendicitis came home 48 hours later with a new born baby.

Nadia Rhoads from Ohio, USA went to the hospital after having severe cramps in her side and back, completely oblivious to the fact that she was pregnant since she was on contraception and had not gained any weight.

Life dramatically changed for Nadia on December 22, when her boyfriend Brad rushed her to hospital.

The 19-year-old had very soon gone into labour and was eight centimetres dilated when her boyfriend Brad O'Donnell, 22, was able to come to her side.

"They checked me out a bit then they had me take a pregnancy test and found that I was pregnant," said Nadia.

"I think everyone when they take a pregnancy test gets a little nervous, but I was like 'I'm on birth control, there's no way.'

"I was surprised and in shock, especially because I was in labour already so there was no time to prepare anything."

Meanwhile, Brad was sat outside concerned for his girlfriends health, unware that he was about to become a father.

Nadia said: "I didn't really have much of a reaction I was just so shocked, and like 'woah!'

"I texted my mum and I sent her a picture of the monitors and I was like 'Um I'm in labour, just thought you should know!'

"She called me back freaking out but she was really happy."

She had been on contraception and it had not crossed her mind that she could be pregnant, and had mostly felt normal throughout the nine-months.

"Birth controls made my period spotty before I got pregnant so nothing really changed with that," Nadia explained.

"It occurred every month around the same time.

"I had really bad back pain and I was always super tired, I didn't think much of it because I was working full time on my feet all for nine hours a day.

"I also started really liking spicy foods but I figured that I just started to like it."

She had also maintained her usual weight, and had not felt any significant changes that would give her an inkling that she was pregnant.

"It took me a few months to kind of adjust everything and kind of feel like a mom.

"But now I'm for sure adjusted and I enjoy it, I do feel like a mom now."

After a gruelling 14-hours in labour, Delaney Mae O'Donnell was born and ready to go home to her family and three cats.

Nadia had to delay studying her beauty course in order to care for Delaney, but is taking motherhood in her stride.

She said: "It was really crazy thankfully I had a lot of friends and family who helped us out to get us stuff.

"Everyone loves Delaney and she's brought so much joy to all of our lives.

"When we got home I was like 'oh God, I have to do all this, this is all me now'.

"This isn't fake, this is real"

She said: "I wanted those that have been through the same thing as me to know they aren't alone.

"I also want to share that things like this can and do happen, and that our bodies are crazy and can do crazy and amazing things."
