Teen who helped to steal motorbike in Kingswood is sent to custody

A teenager admitted stealing one motorbike and handling a stolen one. And now he's starting 24 weeks' custody.

Harvey Mitchell was said to have been with an unknown offender who stole a motorbike. Police later found Mitchell riding another stolen machine.

The 19-year-old, of Hawkins Crescent in Bradley Stoke, pleaded guilty to theft and handling stolen goods. He appeared for sentence at Bristol Crown Court.

Judge Jason Taylor QC jailed him for 24 weeks. He told Mitchell: "You have an appalling record for somebody so young, but you have the support of a loving family which you will need on your release."

Neil Treharne, prosecuting, said a Yamaha YZF-R3 worth £3,295 was stolen from Kingswood on April 28. When police spotted Mitchell on the machine he told them he bought it for £600 and suspected it was stolen.

The court heard police suspected Mitchell was with a man who stole a Lexmoto motorbike worth £1,000 from Kingswood on May 9. Mitchell later accepted he acted as a lookout in the theft.

Caitlin Evans, defending, urged the judge to pass as short a sentence as possible. She said in the past Mitchell had been exploited by an organised crime group but was showing a willingness to reform.

Miss Evans said: "He has the drive and the willingness to rehabilitate himself. He is still only 19 and able to change."
