Teen who had seizure while gaming online saved when opponent rang 999 from Texas

A teenager who had a seizure while playing an online game was saved when his opponent rang the emergency services from Texas.

Aidan Jackson, 17, was using a headset to talk to gamer Dia Lathora nearly 5,000 miles away when he fell ill.

Dia, 20, realised what was happening and searched online for an emergency services number for Aidan’s town.

Aidan’s mum and dad Caroline and Steve were watching TV downstairs when police cars and an ambulance appeared in the road outside their house in Widnes, Cheshire.

Dia said: “I heard what I could only describe as a seizure, so obviously I started to get worried.” When Aidan did not respond to her, she tried different numbers seeking help.

She added: “I told [them] I was trying to get help for my friend who had just had a seizure in England.”

Dia stayed on the line until she heard Aidan’s mum and the medical team arrive – just 40 minutes after his fit.

Mum-of-four Caroline, 48, said: “I’m sure it’s not every day that Cheshire emergency services get a phone call all the way from America.

“We always say to the kids be careful who you speak to online but, in this case, it was invaluable.

“We can’t thank Dia enough.”

Aidan has had tests and is waiting for a diagnosis.
