Teen was spotted with imitation handgun in GP surgery

Shortly after being driven by taxi to a Perth doctor’s surgery, a teenager was seen with a handgun as he exited the reception area.

Police were contacted and obtained a search warrant for 19-year-old Luqman Khan’s home in the city’s Bridge Lane.

Officers subsequently seized an imitation firearm, recovered from a cupboard in a bedroom.

Khan, who was 17 at the time, will be sentenced on April 16 after a background report has been obtained.

He appeared on indictment at Perth Sheriff Court on Thursday to admit having the weapon at the Whitefriars Surgery, Whitefriars Street, and at Glover Street and Andrew Heiton Court, all Perth, on May 30, 2019.

A not guilty plea was accepted to a second charge of having the weapon with intent to cause Cheryll Fowler, Kay Morrison and Cindy McDonald to believe that “unlawful violence would be used against them - or another person” was accepted by the prosecution.

Depute fiscal Marie Irvine said the accused was picked up in a taxi and asked to be taken to the surgery. He asked the driver to wait and he was seen by a witness to be holding what was described as a handgun.

Khan was then taken to Lloyds Chemist and again he asked the taxi to wait.

A description of the accused was given to police who confirmed his identity with medical staff.

When questioned, Khan admitted being in the doctor’s surgery but denied having a firearm in his possession.

The court was told it was a G20 air pistol, capable of discharging 6mm plastic pellets.

A solicitor said Khan was now living in Albert Road, Bolton, and was a first offender.

Sheriff Gillian Wade described it as a ‘serious offence’ and wanted reports to give the ‘widest possible sentencing options, including custody, if thought necessary.
