Teen to stand trial accused of killing young Scots dancer

A teenager is to stand trial accused of killing a young dancer after allegedly supplying her with ecstasy.

James McCairn, 18, is accused of "recklessly and unlawfully" giving the "potentially lethal" class A drug to Cerys Reeve at his home in Greenock, Inverclyde on July 13 2020.

The culpable homicide charge claims the 14 year-old then took the ecstasy at another address in the town to the danger of her health, safety and life.

Cerys is then said to have died on the same date at Inverclyde Royal Hospital as a result of "ingesting" the drug.

McCairn faces a separate charge of supplying ecstasy to others at a number of locations in Greenock between November 2019 and August 2020.

This includes to Cerys, of Port Glasgow, Inverclyde, and other teenage girls.

He is further accused of being concerned in the supply of cannabis and possession of cocaine.

The case called for a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow, where lawyers for McCairn pled not guilty.

Lady Scott fixed a trial due to start in June 2022.

McCairn, still of Greenock, remains on bail.
