Teen to face trial over shooting murder

Aspiring lawyer Omar Elomar was fatally shot in the chest nearly a year ago. (AAP)

A Sydney teenager has pleaded not guilty to the shooting murder of an aspiring lawyer who was related to an Islamic State terrorist.

Omar Elomar, a relative of dead terrorist Mohamed Elomar, died at Cabramatta Avenue in Miller on February 15, 2020 after being shot in the chest about 11pm.

In the NSW Supreme Court on Friday, Noah Albert pleaded not guilty to murdering the 18-year-old on the western Sydney street.

The 19-year-old's lawyer said the trial issues related to whether Albert knew the shooter had a firearm and whether he had the intention to form part of the crime.

But Justice Robert Allan Hulme said the Crown alleged Albert was the one who had the gun and fired the fatal shot.

His trial, estimated to last four weeks, was set down to begin on November 1.
