Teen to appear in court charged in connection with theft of puppies in Castlemilk

A teenager has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged theft of eight three-week-old Bulldog puppies in Castlemilk.

The 19-year-old was cuffed by officers from Police Scotland today after the incident at a house on Barlia Drive in the early hours of this morning.

He is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court tomorrow charged with an alleged robbery, vandalism and theft.

It's believed a gang of four threatened the family in the property before making off with the dogs.

The men then threatened the family within the property before making off with eight three-week-old bulldog puppies.

The gang arrived at the house on Barila Drive in the area at around 1.30am this morning in two vehicles, a silver coloured VW Polo and a silver coloured Audi.

They were carrying bladed weapons and the family - a 29 year old man, 34 year old woman and three children aged 17, 10 and two - have been left extremely distressed by incident.

The men also smashed up the house and vandalised a Mercedes car parked outside the property

Detective Inspector Lynsey Watters said: “A family has been targeted within their home while sleeping and a young 10-year-old girl is deeply traumatised by what has happened.

“The motive, for this attack, is unknown, however, we do believe that it was targeted.

“I am appealing to members of the local community to contact us with any information they may have and to listen out for anything they might hear regarding this crime.

“Perhaps you saw the suspects, do you know anything about the cars?  Any small piece of information could prove significant in our investigation so please do get in touch.”

Police have so far seized the VW Polo from the scene for forensics officers to carry out full examination.

The force is also attempting to track down the other men involved.

A further Police Scotland statement read: "Police Scotland can confirm that a 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged, robbery, vandalism and theft follow an incident in Barlia Drive, Castlemilk on Wednesday, 21 August 2019.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and the man is due appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday 22 August 2019."
