Teen thugs leave 18-year-old in hospital after Paisley golf club attack

A teenager needed stitches to his head after he was battered by three youths at a Paisley park.

The 18-year-old was with pals near Barshaw Gold Club on Wednesday night when he was attacked.

He was rushed to hospital for treatment after he was punched and kicked by a trio of young yobs.

The victim was in a group of up to a dozen young people when the attack took place and officers hope members of the public may have seen the group.

Cops are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at around 7.30pm near the treeline on the course’s 12th hole.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “An 18-year-old man was seriously assaulted by three youths within the grounds of Barshaw Golf Club on Wednesday evening.

“He sustained a head injury which required hospital treatment in the attack.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

He added: “We are carrying out enquiries in the area, including checking CCTV.”

It is understood officers are following a positive line of enquiry.

Officers have also issued a call to parents and carers to be aware of where their children are after a spike in youth anti-social behaviour at the park.

Inspector Laura Hamill, from Renfrewshire’s community policing team said: “We have seen a rise in reports of anti-social behaviour at Barshaw Park and other areas in recent weeks.

“Although we understand that young people want to enjoy the summer with their friends, particularly given how difficult the last year has been, we want them to do so responsibly.

“I would also ask parents and carers to be aware of where their children and young people are when they are out.

“Anti-social behaviour has a negative impact on our communities.”

Express readers with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
