Teen thought eyes were going to pop out when rollercoaster stalled in mid air

A teenager who was left dangling from a stalled roller coaster said the terrifying experience made her feel like her eyes were coming out.

Ellie Middleton hopped aboard the Air Maxx ride at Hull Fair ground on Saturday afternoon.

Midway through the white knuckle ride the train stopped, leaving those aboard hanging upside down, Hull Daily Mail reported.

There were suspended in the air for at least ten minutes until the jammed coaster could be started again.

"The ride was going around as normal, and it should tip as you’re on it, but it reached a point where it stopped tipping and we were upside down," said the 19-year-old.

“It kept on going for a couple of minutes in the air, and because we were on the side of the ride that meant we were going backwards, it felt like my eyes were coming out.

“The ride owners decided to bring the ride down because they couldn’t fix it, but we were still left upside down for about 10 to 15 minutes.

"They were all jumping around it trying to mend it.”

For the past five years that the ride has come to Hull Ellie has found herself onboard.

She said although she was not “fearing for her life” during the incident, the episode had left her feeling dizzy.

“While I was upside down on the ground, I was trying to tilt my head around because I was going dizzy and I was worried I was going to black out,” she said.

“I knew my life was not in danger, but it was still frightening. When we finally got down, we just got our money back.

“St John’s Ambulance was called, but I didn’t get checked over or anything like that.”

Despite the ordeal, Ellie plans to return to the fair.

“It has not put me off going at all, and I think next year I will still go on the Air Maxx,” she said.

Hull Fair is Europe's largest travelling fairs and dates back to the 13th century.
