Teen stabbed on footpath in attack which led to extra police powers remains in hospital

A teenager stabbed in Huyton on Friday night remains in hospital.

The 15-year-old is now said to be in a stable condition after he suffered wounds to his back and arm.

The attack came days after a fatal stabbing just streets away.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder in connection with that incident.

Both stabbing scenes fell within an area that fell under special policing powers on Sunday.

In place from 4pm yesterday to the early hours of Monday, a Section 60 Order gave officers greater powers to stop and search males aged 13-35 in the area "to minimise serious violence".

The move followed the attack on the 15-year-old boy, who was stabbed on a footpath on Greenway Park on Friday night.

Emergency services were informed at around 9.50pm when they were called to nearby St Michael's Court, where the victim had fled to.

He was still receiving treatment for his injuries on Monday.

Days earlier, on Monday of last week, Connor Dockerty was stabbed to death on Kingsway.

The 23-year-old, from Litherland, was attacked outside a row of shops that now host a shrine of tributes in his memory.

Three teenage boys and a teenage girl were questioned on suspicion of his murder and, on Saturday morning, a 14-year-old boy appeared in court after being charged with the offence.

Speaking on Sunday, when the Section 60 Order was imposed on the Huyton area, Detective Inspector Lawrence Simm said: “The use of knives on our streets is extremely dangerous and will not be tolerated.

"As we have already seen this week, it can have truly devastating consequences.

“Our schools officers regularly engage with young people about the danger carrying a knife can pose to themselves and others, and I would urge people to educate themselves and speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime.

“Day in day out our officers conduct warrants, stop checks, land searches and other proactive activity to help us take knives out of circulation and put before the courts those offenders prepared to store, carry and use them."
