Teen 'stabbed in the head' during attack in Oxgangs area of Edinburgh

A teenager is in hospital following a serious assault in Edinburgh.

Police and ambulance service raced to Oxgangs Road North, in the Oxgangs area of the city, after the alarm was raised at 5.50pm on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old man was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

A witness told the Record that he was stabbed in the head but this was unconfirmed by police.

The victim's current condition is unknown.

The violent attack in understood to have taken place near to the Scotmid store on Oxgangs Road North.

One witness told the Record: "I saw loads of police and ambulance crews outside the Scotmid.

"I've heard the guy has been stabbed in the head."

Officers are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesman told the Record: "We were called at 5.50pm on Tuesday, February 25 following reports of a serious assault on Oxgangs Road North in Edinburgh.

"A 19-year-old man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

"Enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting incident number 2780 on Tuesday, February 25."
