Teen 'sprayed with acid' outside Sainsbury's as firefighters hose him down

A teenager has been sprayed with an 'unknown substance' outside a Sainsbury's in London sparking acid attack fears.

Pictures from Borough High Street show a number of police vehicles, ambulances and fire engines at the scene.

A Met Police spokesman said the male victim approached officers at 3.37pm reporting he had been sprayed in the face.

Other images show what appears to be the victim being hosed down with water by firefighters.

The substance in which he was sprayed with has not yet been confirmed and is being investigated.

It is understood the teen has not suffered any injuries.

One shocked onlooker said: "Acid attack at Sainsbury #borough high street now. Just happened as we were in KFC next door. Big emergency services presence. Could be triggering, best avoid if in area."

Another added: "Acid attack on Borough High Street. Victim being hosed with water."

And a third said: "Police and ambulance service dealing with incident at or outside a Sainsbury’s Local in Borough High Street.

"Store is still open; doesn’t seem to be a major incident.

"There are carriageway restrictions in place due to an emergency services incident.

"Traffic is slow moving on approach."

A Met Police spokesman confirmed: "Police approached at 15:37hrs near Borough High Street, by teenager who reported that he had been sprayed with a substance.

"LAS [London Ambulance Service] & LFB [London Fire Brigade] attended.

"Victim not believed to have suffered any injuries. Enquiries continue to determine what the substance is.

"No arrests at this stage."

A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said: "We were called at 3.35pm to assist police at an incident. It was over for us at 4.22pm."
