Teen smashed glasses into face of pub goer at Balloch venue

A teenager smashed two glass tumblers into the face of another reveller in a bar leaving him scarred for life.

First offender Lewis Morgan, 19, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week and admitted striking his victim on the head with glass tumblers to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement at the Glenroy pub in Balloch.

The court heard that the victim and a female friend went to the pub after work on May 21 last year for drinks.

Morgan, from Kirstie Place in Alexandria, was also there with friends.

Procurator fiscal depute Kevin Docherty said: “The victim and his friend described Morgan and his group of friends as being ‘drunk and hyper’, jumping about and stamping their feet.”

A man and a woman from Morgan’s party were dancing on a chair with a witness seeing Morgan push the male causing him to stumble into the victim.

Mr Docherty said: “The victim asked the male to watch what he was doing and the male apologised. Morgan took offence to this and told the victim to shut up. Morgan is described as being in the victim’s face holding two glass tumblers in his left hand.

“Morgan then struck the victim with them.

“Other people intervened and Morgan left. The victim attended at the Vale of Leven Hospital. His forehead required seven stitches and lacerations to his cheek were closed with glue.”

Police attended and got information which led them to Morgan’s home.

Mr Docherty went on: “In the common close they found a driving licence in the name of Lewis Morgan which appeared to be blood-stained.

“Morgan was found within and arrested. Officers seized various items of clothing also blood-stained.”

When interviewed at Clydebank Police Office he was “described as making no admissions but confirmed he had a number of lacerations to his left hand”.

It was heard the victim’s injuries will leave a permanent scar.

Morgan will be sentenced next month.
