Teen shot to death on Northwest Side identified

April 06--A 17-year-old boy shot to death in the Oriole Park neighborhood Monday afternoon has been identified, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The boy found shot in the 5500 block of North Harlem Avenue on Monday was identified as Anthony Heatherly, of the 5700 block of North Kingsdale Avenue in the Sauganash neighborhood, according to the medical examiner's office.

The boy was found about 1:15 p.m. behind a Taco Burrito King across from the CTA Blue Line stop in the 5500 block of North Harlem Avenue, according to police. Heatherly was pronounced dead at 2:15 p.m. at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. He died from a gunshot wound to the chest, the medical examiner's office determined following an autopsy Tuesday.

A police source said the boy's car and phone were missing.

A witness reported seeing the boy being dumped from a car in the area of Harlem Avenue and Higgins Road, police Capt. Hootan Bahmandeji said. The boy was found in a parking lot next to a dental clinic and a Taco Burrito King restaurant.

Tuesday afternoon, a candle left over from a makeshift memorial stood in the corner of the parking lot where Heatherly's body was found.

Farther east, in the quiet cul-de-sac of single-family homes where Heatherly lived in Sauganash, a neighbor said he was "shocked" to hear of the shooting.

"He was a great kid, always really nice, kept to himself," the neighbor said. "I would see him go to his car, he always said hi."

Family at the boy's house declined to comment.
