Teen's body pulled from reservoir two weeks after she vanished from graduation party

The body of a missing teenager has been found in a reservoir two weeks after after she disappeared from a graduation party.

Authorities confirmed the identity of 16-year-old Kiely Rodni in an autopsy on Tuesday evening (August 23) after a body and car were removed from a lake in Truckee, California two days earlier.

She was reported missing on August 6 and was last seen the same day at a party attended by hundreds of teens at the Prosser Family Campground, which is located next to the Creek reservoir.

Authorities said the last signal from her mobile phone was registered near the water at around 12.30am that evening.

Her mum Lindsey Rodni-Nieman meanwhile told The Independent that she had received a message at 11.30pm saying she would be leaving the party in 45 minutes.

Kiely's disappearance prompted a huge two-week campaign to find her, with divers from the Adventures With Purpose group eventually coming to help with the rescue effort.

A team of six volunteers using sonar technology eventually found her body on Sunday (August 21), prompting a huge outpouring of grief from loved ones as they awaited the final autopsy results.

Her heartbroken ex-boyfriend posted a video to Instagram on Monday prior to her identification where he said "still [doesn't] know how to process" her death, having earlier posted a message saying "I missed you even when you were in my arms.”

A touching tribute from her family on Monday afternoon meanwhile read: "We are eternally grateful for the love and support you have shown us in the last couple of weeks.

“While we accept this sadness cast under death’s shadow, the rising sun shines light upon us, reminding us not to mourn our loss, but to celebrate Kiely’s spirit and the gift that we all received in knowing her.

“Kiely will surely remain with us even though we will not get her back.”

A statement from Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the discovery on Tuesday, offering their "deepest condolences".
