Teen relives horror moment finger tip was ripped off by gate at Reading Festival

A teenager has relived the horrific moment her finger tip was ripped off after getting it trapped in a fence at Reading Festival.

Summer Gibbs passed out when the heavy metal barrier slammed on her hand.

The 16-year-old said she passed out in horror when she realised a chunk had been taken out of her finger.

Summer screamed for help while people kept on dancing around at the Berkshire festival last weekend.

She desperately tried to get the attention of friends and security when she realised she couldn’t wriggle loose.

Summer was left helplessly slumped over the fence with her finger in sheer agony and passing out in shock.

Recounting the incident, the sixth-former from Basingstoke told Sun Online : "It was hanging off and I was in and out of consciousness. Then once they lifted me out and I got to the medical tent, they put a tissue around my finger, which it then fell off in.

"I had a panic attack, my vision and hearing went and the numbness in my hand made me think I had fully lost my finger.

"I think the adrenaline and panic led to me having no pain the first hour. After an hour, after which I began to scream in agony.”

Summer wrapped the part of her finger which had been partially severed in a piece of tissue and was taken to hospital.

Despite the horrific damage, doctors expect her to make a full recovery after three months following emergency treatment.

A video taken by a friend and uploaded to TikTok shows huge groups f people crammed into the area where she ended up being trapped.

Security had to lift her over the fence and take her away, which she says she has no memory of.

According to Sun Online, the barriers appeared to have been covered up with tape to prevent another incident.
