Teen pleads guilty to taking pipe bomb onto Adelaide bus

The teenager had already pleaded guilty to three charges.

An Adelaide teenager has admitted to carrying a pipe bomb on a public bus earlier this year.

The 17-year-old from the southern suburbs, whose identity is suppressed under state law, was arrested in March and charged with nine offences including endangering life.

In April, he pleaded guilty in the Adelaide Youth Court to two counts of taking steps to manufacture an explosive device and one count of possessing an explosive substance without lawful excuse.

On Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to possessing an explosive device in a public place and in turn, prosecutors withdrew the remaining charges.

Explosive was a 'pipe bomb'

The court has previously heard the explosive device was a pipe bomb which was in "working order".

At the time, police said CCTV footage showed the teen on a bus, which was travelling through Adelaide's south, in possession of the device.

He did not activate the device and no-one was harmed.

Police said they found other devices during a search of where the boy was living.

The teen has been in custody since his arrest.

He was committed to South Australia's District Court, where he will be sentenced at a later date.
