Teen pair to go on trial after denying setting fire to Airdrie construction yard

A pair of Airdrie teenagers are expected to go on trial charged with wilfully torching a construction yard.

The youths, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are alleged to have deliberately set fire to building materials at Miers Construction Products, on the town’s Watt Street, last June.

It is claimed the pair, who were aged 15 and 16 at the time of the fire, were acting with a juvenile when the fire took effect and caused damage to materials, a security fence and tarmac.

The two boys were also charged with culpably and recklessly setting fire to the building materials at the yard.

Lawyers Rowan Myles and Tony Linden both entered not guilty pleas on behalf of their respective clients.

Sheriff Frank Pieri continued the matter for another formal hearing for the defence to carry out further investigations.

Both accused youths were bailed to return to court on December 17.
