Teen leads police on car chase before crashing into fence in east end

A teenager has been arrested after leading police on a car chase before crashing into a fence.

Police pursued the car after it failed to stop for officers on London Road around 11.45pm on Saturday, January 16.

The driver eventually struck a fence and electrical junction box on the same street.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident and no police vehicles were damaged.

A quantity of cannabis was recovered from the vehicle by police and a 19-year-old man was arrested.

One local told Glasgow Live that the street was left in darkness for several hours, with emergency crews working to restore power to the street lights.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.45pm on Saturday, 16 January, 2021, a car failed to stop for officers on London Road in Glasgow.

“A short pursuit followed before the car struck a fence and electrical junction box on London Road. Nobody was injured in the incident and no police vehicles were damaged.

“A quantity of cannabis was recovered from the vehicle and a 19-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with road traffic and drug offences and has been released on an undertaking to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.”
