Teen is accused of torturing and raping victim who was found bound with duct tape in her home

March 17--An 18-year-old man was charged Tuesday in connection with the torture, rape and beating of a woman for several hours at her home in Hesperia, authorities said.

Charles Agnew-Toland of Las Vegas pleaded not guilty Tuesday to one count of torture, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and 10 other sex-related counts, including rape, according to San Bernardino County Superior Court records.

Agnew-Toland was taken into custody Sunday at the victim's Hesperia home, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. He is being held on $5 million bail.

Deputies received a report of an assault about 9:21 a.m. and arrived to find Agnew-Toland in one room and the unidentified victim bound and lying on the floor of another room.

Her mouth, hands and feet were bound with duct tape, according to the Sheriff's Department. The victim had been beaten and raped for hours, deputies said.

She suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Agnew-Toland knew the victim's family, the Sheriff's Department said.

He had recently contacted the victim and asked if he could sleep the night at her home after moving back to town, authorities said.
