Teen in very serious condition after being assaulted on Sauchiehall Street

An 18-year-old man is in a very serious condition after being assaulted in the city centre in the early hours of this morning.

The incident occurred at around 3am on Friday, May 10. A group of men and women were outside the Bistro Fast Food in Sauchiehall Street when a fight broke out involving around five men.

One of the men involved in the fight punched the 18-year-old in the face causing him to fall and hit his head off the ground.

He was assisted by members of the public who called for an ambulance and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he is currently being treated for a serious head injury. His condition is described by hospital staff as very serious but stable.

Police Scotland are now appealing for information following the incident.

The suspect was last seen heading in the direction of Charing Cross and is described as white, around 17 to 20 years of age. 5ft 7, with a slim build and brown hair. He was wearing a blue zipper top with a white zip, red collar and red hood.

Detective Constable John Fagan at Stewart Street CID said: "We are anxious to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Sauchiehall Street at around 3am this morning, Friday 10 May 2019 and who either witnessed the incident or perhaps saw the suspect making off afterwards."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at Stewart Street via telephone number 101 quoting incident number 0727 of 10 May 2019.
