Teen in police chase through people's gardens in the middle of the night

A teenager has been arrested after what witnesses have described as a chase through people's gardens during the middle of the night.

A 16-year-old boy was detained by police officers in Thornton after reports of an attempted break-in at a shed on Masefield Road.

Merseyside Police confirmed it was contacted at 2.30am today (Monday), and that the boy was arrested on suspicion of burglary and being equipped for theft.

He is currently in custody and enquiries are ongoing.

One woman, who lives on nearby White Meadow Drive, said she woke up this morning to find her garden "completely destroyed", though it is not clear whether this incident is related.

She says she believes somebody climbed over her back fence and fell onto a table in her garden.

Images seen by the ECHO show smashed and overturned plant pots, masses of mud and soil, and discarded flower trays.

Responding to her post on Facebook, another woman wrote: "There were police with dogs down and around Edgemoor about 3am, they were in and out of the gardens looking for someone. They had dogs with them, too."
