
POLICE are investigating a suspected Wallsend hit and run after a teenager was rushed to hospital on Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to Douglas Street about 5.45am after reports a motorcyclist was knocked from his vehicle.
The rider, who police said was in his late teens, was taken to the John Hunter. Police said he was reportedly in a serious condition.
Crash investigators and officers from Newcastle City police district have begun investigating the circumstances of the crash.
"As inquiries continue, police are appealing for members of the public to keep a look out for a black SUV vehicle with significant damage to the front driver's side of the vehicle," police said in a statement.
"Anyone who may have seen the vehicle or who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact police."
