Teen girls and boy among four held after gardai seize massive quantity of heroin and cocaine in weekend raids

Two teenage girls, a boy and a woman in her early twenties were arrested after drug busts on either side of the Liffey uncovered more than €300K of heroin and €140K of cocaine.

The massive haul was uncovered during a two related drug raids within twelve hours of each other on either side of the city.

First, on Friday night, Gardai seized €175,000 worth of heroin and €70 of cocaine a massive quantity of deadly drugs during a bust in West Dublin.

A girl aged just 18 and boy, 17 were arrested in Ballyfermot along with a 22-year-old woman after a search of the car they were in uncovered €175,000 worth of heroin and €70 of cocaine.

And a follow-up operation on Saturday morning, this time in Dublin 7, led to another teen girl being arrested and €140K of heroin being seized along with €70 of cocaine.

Gardai said in a statement: "On Friday evening, 28th February 2020, in the course of ongoing intelligence led investigations targeting organised crime, officers attached to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and Special Crime Task Force intercepted a car in the Ballyfermot area of Dublin 10.

"During a search of the car Gardaí seized quantities of heroin valued at €175k and cocaine €70k (analysis pending).

"The occupants of the car two females (aged 18 and 22 years) and a male (aged 17 years) were arrested.

"All three were taken to Ballyfermot Garda Station and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 for questioning.

"Both females remain in Garda custody, the male youth has since been released without charge."

In a follow-up operation a residence was searched in the Dublin 7 area in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Here, Gardaí recovered further quantities of heroin valued at €140k and cocaine worth around €70k (again, analysis pending).

An 18-year-old girl was arrested at the scene and gardai said that she is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 in the Bridewell Garda Station.

Speaking last night, Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll, Special Crime Operations, said:"This operation has removed significant quantities of controlled drugs from circulation. An Garda Síochána will continue to target those who engage in drug trafficking and inflict harm on our communities.”
