A 15-year-old girl suffered serious smoke inhalation injuries Saturday when she was pulled from a burning home in west suburban Aurora.

A bystander called 911 after seeing smoke come from a one-story home about 11:10 a.m. in the 1200 block of 5th Street, according to a statement from the Aurora Fire Department.

Fire crews arrived and pulled her from the apartment, the department said. Another woman, 19, escaped on her own and suffered minor smoke inhalation injuries.

Both were taken to a hospital for treatment, the department said.

The blaze was put out in 15 minutes of firefighters arriving.

The home was deemed uninhabitable, and the damage was estimated at $75,000, the department said. Three people were displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
