A teenager has faced court over an incident that left a young tradie dead.
Liam Casley faced Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday charged with assault and affray over the incident in Seaford, southeast of Melbourne, last November.
Carpenter Cam Smith, 26, died from stab wounds during an alleged altercation near the Seaford train station on November 25.
Casley is not charged over Mr Smith's death. He is facing a third charge, of committing offences while on bail.
His lawyer Sarah Condon told the court Casley, 18, had been held in adult custody since November last year.
She said he was also receiving mental health treatment.
The case is due back in court on March 25.
