Teen found with £1,000 and 30 bags of cocaine after chase

A teen was one of a number of people arrested on Tuesday night during a crackdown on crime in Southport.

A 17-year-old was arrested after trying to make off on foot from police on Bath Street. When he was caught he was found with £1,000 and 30 bags of suspected cocaine.

Following a further search of his house, officers found drug dealing paraphernalia, a large quantity of cannabis resin and cannabis buds, and suspected class A drugs, believed to be cocaine.

He was arrested on suspicion of intent to supply class A and B drugs. He remains in custody.

That same evening saw police officers arrest two men on suspicion of theft after they were found in public toilets on Southport Promenade.

The two men have been named following the arrests. Adam John Bostock, 32, of Sefton Street, Southport has been charged with theft, with Daniel Paul McKenzie, 32, of March Lane, Bootle also being charged with theft. They appeared at Wirral Adult Remand Court yesterday.

Tuesday also saw two more incidents, with a man being arrested for driving a silver Peugeot with no license or insurance.

The last incident involved four teens being arrested following reports of a break-in at the former Homebase building on Meols Cop retail Estate.

Two 15-year-old boys and two 15-year-old girls were arrested but were then de-arrested and returned home.

Graham Fisher, community policing inspector for Southport, said: “This was a good evening’s work for our officers, particularly the drugs arrest where a significant amount was found of the suspect.

“Our officers strive to ensure that anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and violence in the town and surrounding areas is being dealt with robustly.

“We carry out proactive patrols in key areas where our communities tell us they are experiencing issues.

“If you have anti-social behaviour or criminality in your area let us know and we will take action.”
