Teen found hanged sent girlfriend heartbreaking text message moments before

A teen sent his girlfriend a text message saying he planned to take his own life before he was found hanged, an inquest heard.

Louie Sam Bates had battled with depression for two years but had not sought medical assistance.

Assistant coroner Crispin Oliver, heard the 19 year old lived with his mother, Lisa Mullally and his younger sister, at their home in Halifax.

The inquest at Bradford Coroner's Court heard the emergency services were called to the property on the morning of Sunday, January 6, Examiner Live reports.

Mr Oliver said the teenager was found hanged by his mother when she returned home at 9am and walked up the stairs of the three-storey town house.

A nearby neighbour, Alex Muff, said in a statement: "At about 9.30am Lisa came knocking on the door and said Louie had hanged himself.

"It was clear to me that Louie had passed away due to his colour."

Death was pronounced at 10.02am.

West Yorkshire Police sergeant Sarah Hanson, told Mr Oliver an analysis of Louie's phone showed he had sent a text message to his girlfriend.

Mr Oliver asked her: "Would you agree with me that what you have got there on the screen is consistent with the intention to end his life?"

Sgt Hanson replied: "I do, sir."

Mr Oliver concluded that Louie died from asphyxia.

He said: "Unfortunately, I am drawn to the conclusion that it was suicide."
