Teen fighting for life after electric scooter crash day after YouTuber killed

A 14-year-old boy is fighting for his life after crashing his electric scooter - just a day after the death of YouTuber Emily Hartidge in similar circumstances.

It is believed Emily is the first person to have died in an electric scooter crash in the UK after she was fatally hit by a lorry near her London home on Friday.

On Saturday morning, a teenage boy riding an e-scooter slammed into a bus stop in London and had to be flown to hospital in an air ambulance.

He suffered a serious head injury and is currently in a critical condition, according to the Met Police.

A spokesman for the force said: "Police were called to Monks Orchard Road, Beckenham, at 11.42am on Saturday, 13 July, to reports that a teenage boy had crashed an electric scooter.

"Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

"A 14-year-old boy was found with a serious head injury after it was reported his scooter had collided with a bus stop.

"He was taken by air ambulance to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

"His next of kin have been informed. Enquiries into the circumstances continue."

Road safety experts are now calling for stricter legislation to prevent further e-scooter crashes.

YouTube star Emily, 35, was involved in an accident less than half a mile away from her home in Battersea at a busy roundabout.

Paramedics battled to save her, but Emily was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened at around 8.30am.

A statement posted on her Instagram read: "Hi everyone. This is a horrible thing to have to say over Instagram but we know many of you were expecting to see Emily today and this is the only way to contact you all at once.

"Emily was involved in an accident yesterday and passed away. We all loved her to bits and she will never be forgotten.

"She has touched so many lives it's hard to imagine things without her. She was a very special person xxx."
