Teenage boy found dead in NSW river

The body of a teenage boy has been found after he went missing while swimming in the Shoalhaven River in southern NSW on New Year's Eve.

Emergency service crews including police divers resumed a search for the missing 15-year-old on Saturday morning.

He and a 16-year-old boy went swimming in the river near Burrier on Friday at 6.30pm, but one boy found himself in difficulty, police said.

The boys tried to get back to shore but the 15-year-old disappeared under the water.

Locals began searching before emergency services arrived with boats and a Toll rescue helicopter.

Police divers were on scene from 10.50pm until 1.30am and resumed on Saturday morning.

The body of the 15-year-old was recovered after being located by divers in the river just before 1.30pm.
