Teen falls 50m off cliff in Victoria

A boy was winched to safety by a helicopter after falling down a cliff into the sea. (AAP)

A 14-year-old boy has been rescued by two friends and taken to hospital after falling off a cliff face in Victoria's west.

The teen was standing on cliffs at Barwon Heads Bluff and throwing rocks into the water when he fell about 50 metres just after 4pm on Saturday.

His two friends, who witnessed the fall, called emergency services before making their way down the cliff.

The boys entered the water and waded out to their friend, who was unconscious, pulling him from the water.

Police and paramedics arrived and the boy was winched to safety by a medical services helicopter.

He was flown to hospital and is believed to be in a serious condition.

Victoria Police described the terrain as "difficult and dangerous", and thanked the two boys for pulling their friend to safety.
