Teen facing jail for permanently disfiguring Coatbridge boy in knife attack

A 14-year-old knife-wielding thug, who permanently injured a Coatbridge teenager by repeatedly striking him on the head is facing years in detention.

The yob carried out the vicious attack on his 16-year-old victim on Whifflet Street, Coatbridge, on April 3.

Airdrie Sheriff Court heard last week from prosecutor Liz Ross how the Wishaw boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, punched his victim and repeatedly struck him on the head with a knife to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

The boy denied carrying a knife in public, which was accepted by the Crown.

Ms Ross told the court that the boy was a first offender and had no previous convictions.

Sheriff Frank Pieri deferred sentence until December 17, calling for a full social background report and the advice of the Children’s Panel.

Bail was continued.
