An 18-year-old Clare man has escaped injury after losing control of his vehicle, which then landed on a tree stump.

SA Police said at 10:30pm on Sunday, the teen lost control of his vehicle on Jolly Way, Sevenhill, before coming to a stop on top of the stump.

The man was reported for driving without due care and will be summonsed to court at a later date.

"Even though the long weekend is almost over, police will continue to target those reckless drivers who choose to drive carelessly," police posted on social media along with a photo of the car.

South Australia has had a horror start to the year, with the road toll already at 43, compared to 20 at the same time last year.

Two lives have been claimed over the Easter long weekend, including a 16-year-old boy who died in a crash in the early hours of Sunday morning.

SA Police said emergency services were called to Lake Plains Road at Lake Plains, about 64 kilometres south of Adelaide after reports a car had crashed into a tree.

The young Strathalbyn man, the driver of a Honda station wagon, died at the scene.

On Friday, an 88-year-old Campbelltown woman died from injuries sustained in a three-car crash in West Lakes Shore on March 31.
