Teen drink-driver drove on a path and crashed after losing control of his car in Gateshead

A teenage drink-driver has been disqualified from driving after he drove onto a path and crashed into another vehicle.

Kristian Frost, 19, of Waterville Road, North Shields had been at a friend's house when he got behind the wheel on January 24, 2021, and crashed his car on Howard Street, Gateshead.

At a hearing at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court, prosecutor Rehana Haque told the court how a neighbour awoke to a loud bang and looked out of her window.

She saw a black Vauxhall Astra which had driven on the pathway outside her house and collided with her husband's stationary vehicle.

The court heard how Frost was "unsteady on his feet" and the resident asked for someone to call the police.

Frost himself called the police and he was arrested with the officer believing he was under the influence of alcohol.

During the hearing on March 1, Frost pleaded guilty to driving whilst unfit through drink.

Defending Frost, Ian Cassidy said: "He was at a friend's address and was planning to stay the night but there was a disagreement and he left to go home.

"He wasn't really thinking. There were icy conditions and he lost control of the car.

"He was very sorry and has never been in this position before."

Chair of the bench, John Lee said: "You made a bad decision. People shouldn't drink and drive but many people take a chance."

Giving him credit for his guilty plea, the chair ordered him to pay £419.

Frost was also disqualified from driving for 15 months and was offered the option to take a drink driver rehabilitation course which would knock 15 weeks off his disqualification.
