A one-car crash in Aberdeenshire has left one teen dead and another fighting for life in hospital.
Police and paramedics were scrambled to the A90 between Crimond and St Fergus gas terminal at around 7.30am this morning.
Two men were travelling in a red Ford Fiesta when it careered off the road and down an embankment.
An 18-year-old died at the scene and a 19-year-old was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by Ambulance where he remains in a critical condition.
Sergeant Chris Smith of the North Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts and sympathies remain with the family of the man who lost his life, as well as with the other young man who has been seriously injured."
There were no other people within the vehicle.
Specialist officers are now investigating the crash and the road has remained closed while they comb the scene for clues.
Sgt Smith added: “Our enquiries into the cause of the collision are continuing and I would ask anyone who saw anything to contact police as soon as possible.
“We believe the red Ford Fiesta may have travelled on the A90, Peterhead to Fraserburgh road, at some point yesterday and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen it."
Officers are keen to hear from motorists who used the A90 anytime between yesterday evening (Sunday, October 4) and 7.30am this morning (Monday, October 5) who may have seen the red Fiesta.
Drivers are also urged to check dash-cam devices for any relevant footage.
