Teen dies after 'stolen' scrambler bike crashes into car carrying young children

A teenager has died after a suspected stolen scrambler bike he was riding crashed into a car carrying young children.

The man, 18, was riding the scrambler with another 18-year-old when it crashed into the Volkswagen car in Allerton, Liverpool.

Merseyside Police said the suspected stolen motorcycle is believed to have been travelling in tandem along Booker Avenue with another scrambler, neither of which had their lights on, when the crash occurred.

The second rider of the motorbike suffered serious injuries and is being treated in hospital.

The Tiguan car had two children, aged nine and 11, on board although they are not understood to have suffered serious injuries.

A police spokeswoman said: "Witnesses have reported that neither of the bikes had any lights on. The second bike stopped initially and then made off towards Mather Avenue."

House-to-house enquiries are being carried out and CCTV opportunities are also being explored, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Chief Inspector Kevin Chatterton, said: "Our enquiries into this incident are at an early stage and we are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the two scrambler bikes prior to the collision at around 8.40pm."
