Jan. 25--A 17-year-old boy died a day after he was hit by a car when he got off a CTA bus and ran into traffic to try to cross the street in the West Englewood neighborhood late last week, authorities said Sunday.
Jamel Robinson was pronounced dead at 2:31 p.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office, less than a day after police say he was hit by a bus near Hoyne Avenue and 69th Street.
The boy got off an eastbound CTA bus on 69th Street about 5:24 p.m. on Friday and ran north to try to cross the street, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago police spokeswoman, citing preliminary police information. He was hit by a 2014 Mazda 3 that was headed east, and taken initially in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, she said.
Robinson lived in the 2000 block of West 68th Place, a few blocks from the scene of the accident, according to the medical examiner's office.
The 22-year-old woman who was driving the Mazda stopped following the accident, and had not been issued any citations in the hours following, Tannehill said. The police Major Accident Investigation Unit was investigating and Police News Affairs did not have updated information following Robinson's death.
