Teen dies after being critically injured during Scots street fight

A 19-year-old man who was left critically injured following a disturbance in Ayrshire has died.

Darryl Wright, who was known as Dee, passed away earlier today after he was seriously injured in Kilwinning on Saturday morning.

Police raced to the scene in Ladyford Avenue at around 2.30am after locals reported a noisy disturbance in the street involving youths.

Darryl was rushed to Crosshouse hospital and police were treating the incident as an attempted murder.

Darryl succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

Shocked friends took to social media to pay tribute to Darryl who although he came from Glasgow was well-known in Kilwinning.

One friend wrote: "RIP. Thoughts go out to your family and friends Dee Wright."

Another said: "It's shocking what has happened. RIP Dee."

Police are still appealing for information and said they are reviewing CCTV images.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "Around 2.30am on Saturday, 22 May, 2021, police received a report of disturbance in a lane at the rear of Ladyford Avenue. 

"Emergency services attended and Daryll was taken to Crosshouse hospital where he died on Monday, 24 May, 2021.



"A 17-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with incident and is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 25 May, 2021. 

"Detective Chief Inspector Mick Carr, of Saltcoats CID, said: “Our thoughts go out to Daryll’s family at this extremely difficult time and we continue to provide them with support.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area and I would ask anyone who has any concerns to speak to officers.”
