Teen cyclist in 'serious condition' after hit and run

A young cyclist is in a serious but stable condition after a hit-and-run collision in Widnes yesterday.

Cheshire police said the 18-year-old was riding along Milton Road towards Riverside College at some time between 3.30pm and 4pm when a grey Ford Kuga “collided with him”.

The car failed to stop at the scene.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said the cyclist was airlifted to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police cordoned off a section of Milton Road close to the shops and the junction with Cameron Road and officers also deployed a drone while investigations took place.

One woman at the scene, who asked not to be named, told the ECHO she had heard “a kid” had been hit and the “fella drove off”, and that the casualty was bleeding.

Widnes police tweeted at 6.44pm to say the road had opened again.

Officers are keen to hear from witnesses and anyone who can identify the driver of the Kuga.

DC Tina Jackson said: “We would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that will help us identify the driver to contact us.

“If you were in the area at the time and have dashcam footage you can submit it on our website.

“Please make sure you reference IML 806505.”
