Teen ‘couch drummer’ in Chicago gets a gift from Anderson .Paak

Anderson .Paak hugs Trinity Robinson during his presentation of a drum kit to the Chicago teen.

Drumming on a couch is what made Chicago’s Trinity Robinson Internet-famous, but now she’s pounding a real drum set, thanks to a Grammy-winning musician.

A video on the Instagram feed of his charity shows singer and rapper Anderson .Paak overseeing the setup of the kit and presenting it to Robinson.

“That’s hot!” the teen says of her gift. “Like oh my God!”

In March, Paak had shared one of Robinson’s videos of her beats on a makeshift drum set that include a child’s push toy and the couch she was sitting on. The Instagram clip has almost 30,000 views.

Robinson told the blog Because of Them We Can that Paak reached out and promised “when he touched down in Chicago he would give me a drum set.”

The handoff happened while Paak was in town for a June 4 concert at Huntington Bank Pavilion.

The blog says Robinson, who turned 18 on Sunday, just graduated from Percy Julian High School in Washington Heights and plans to study political science and music at Roosevelt University.
