A teenage boy accused of killing a pregnant couple when he drove into them in an allegedly stolen car east of Brisbane has been committed to stand trial for murder.

The prosecution alleged the 17-year-old — who cannot be named for legal reasons — was drug-affected when he struck Katherine Leadbetter and her partner Matthew Field with a four-wheel drive as they crossed an intersection at Alexandra Hills in January.

It was alleged the teenager had stolen the car from a home in nearby Cleveland about an hour before the crash.

In a brief committal hearing in the Children's Court in Brisbane on Wednesday morning, the prosecution said 128 witness statements had been identified and handed to the magistrate.

Footage shows the 4WD allegedly colliding with another car before the fatal crash in Alexandra Hills.

The court heard the teenager also faced a string of other charges in relation to the incident, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, burglary and wilful damage.

The teenager, who has recently turned 18, also appeared in court via video link, but made no comment during the hearing.

His lawyer, Ruth O'Gorman, told the court her client accepted his "manner of driving" caused the couple's deaths.

"However, he disputes that he knew that by his manner of driving he would probably cause those deaths."

The couple were out walking their dog on Australia Day when they were hit and killed.

Ms Leadbetter was six months pregnant when the accident occurred.

The couple's unborn son Miles also died in the accident.

Proceedings were heard in a closed court, but members of the media were granted permission to attend following a legal application.

The matter was adjourned for a trial in the Supreme Court on a date yet to be set.
