Teen collapsed and died after taking nine MDMA pills at festival

A teenager collapsed and died at a train station after taking nine MDMA pills at an electronic dance festival, an inquest has heard.

Callum Bronson, 19, swallowed the capsules of mind-bending powder before the Knockout Games of Destiny event in Sydney, Australia.

He later became unwell - and despite telling friends he would "push through it" - died within hours of collapsing.

He was foaming at the mouth when medics arrived to treat him.

Callum's friend, who cannot be identified, told the inquest in New South Wales: "He was standing there, staring at the stage, looking blank.

"I asked if he needed a break or some water and he said no.

"(He said) he was just going to keep a strong mind and push through it."

The inquest came as part of a probe into the deaths of six people who died at music festivals over the last two years.

The hearing also comes just days after an inquest heard how a UK law student who took MDMA "developed a horrid grey pallor" and was "moaning without making sense" before he died.

Calum Gill, 21, was on a bus ride to Radio One Big Weekend when he became unwell.

His mum Gurvinder Gill said her life has never been the same since the death of her "intelligent and handsome" son.

She said: "The pain of losing my son Calum is indescribable. I spend my life now wishing I was dead, hoping that when I go to bed at night I don't wake up in the morning.

"You see I also died on the 27th May because I have no future, as this has been stolen from me along with any dreams or hopes I had for this family."

In the harrowing victim statement read out to the court on Friday, Mrs Gill Gurvinder revealed how Calum had only finished his final exams the previous day. He planned to work as a lifeguard in an American summer camp before teaching at an English language school in China.

She also spoke about how her family had moved out of the home they had been in for the past 25 years because of all the memories, and that she could no longer work in the finance sector despite decades of experience.

But she nonetheless said she will strive to pull together for her other son, who is 20 years old.
