Teen charged with murder over fatal stabbing in South Yarra

Police were called to reports of a fight in South Yarra and found the injured man.

Police have charged a 15-year-old boy with one count of murder following a fatal stabbing in South Yarra, in Melbourne's inner south-east, last week.

Police said a 40-year-old man from Prahran was stabbed following a fight at the intersection of Essex Street and Malvern Road at 11:00pm.

The man, who suffered wounds to his upper body, was taken to hospital where he later died.

Victoria Police officers arrested the boy early this morning and, after being interviewed, he was charged with one count of murder.

He was remanded in custody.

Police said CCTV captured a motorised scooter and a white van in the area at the same time as the teen.

The CCTV showed the teen stepping in front of the scooter and being struck, while a white van drove past the teen and the victim during their fight.

Police are still trying to find those two witnesses and have appealed for them to come forward.
