Teen charged with manslaughter over road death

A teenager has been charged with manslaughter after allegedly chasing a man onto the street and assaulting him before the victim was struck and killed by a car.

The boy, 16, is accused of chasing the 48-year-old onto a Cairns intersection and pushing him on the roadway about 8pm on Saturday.

It's alleged the pair knew each other.

The victim was allegedly left on the road where he was hit by a car a short time later.

He was declared dead at the scene.

The 16-year-old Manoora boy was arrested and charged with manslaughter on Tuesday.

His bail was refused and he is due to face Cairns Childrens Court.
