A teenage boy has been charged with causing the death of a girl when their tinnies collided during one of the busiest days on Australian waterways.
The 16-year-old girl died in hospital after being pulled from the water following a crash between two aluminium boats in southern Sydney on Australia Day.
She was thrown from a Quintrex Dart runabout when it collided with an Anglapro runabout near Grays Point.
Paramedics treated her at the scene before she was rushed to hospital.
The two boats' operators, both 16-year-old boys, were taken for mandatory testing and police launched an investigation into the incident.
NSW Police on Wednesday said the teen who was piloting the Anglapro boat was charged with negligently operating a recreational vessel causing death after an extensive investigation.
He is due to appear before a children's court on June 20.
