A 15-year-old boy was charged with an armed carjacking Saturday in Austin on the West Side.
He faces one felony count each of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon and possession of a stolen vehicle, Chicago police said. He is also charged with misdemeanor counts of reckless conduct, criminal damage to property and resisting a peace officer.
The teen and several other people entered a parked van in an alley about 5 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Lawler Avenue, police said. When the 43-year-old man who owned the van approached, someone inside pointed a gun at him.
Responding officers arrested the boy as he tried to drive away, police said. He appeared in juvenile court on Sunday.
