April 16--A teen was ordered held on $600,000 bail Thursday afternoon in connection with a 2013 shooting in the city's Park Manor neighborhood that injured a 9-year-old boy.
About 5:30 p.m. June 5, 2013, Tykeece Hilliard, 9, was riding in a vehicle with his siblings, ages 1, 4, 6, 7 and 13, his mother and her boyfriend near the 6700 block of South Evans Avenue. As the car approached 67th Street, the mother's boyfriend said something gang-related to about seven males who were standing on the street, prosecutors said.
The group yelled something to a teen across the street, who then pulled out a weapon and fired four to five shots at the car. The mother's boyfriend drove from the scene, and the shooter, later identified as Ricky Webster, continued to fire toward the car.
Tykeece, who was sitting in the back, passenger-side seat, shouted, "Mommy, I'm shot." The boyfriend drove about a mile and a half to Comer Children's Hospital, where he underwent surgery, police said at the time. Tykeece has since made a full recovery, prosecutors said.
Records from a phone that was taken from Webster while he was detained two days after the 2013 shooting showed he was in the area of 6700 S. Evans Ave. the day of the shooting, prosecutors said.
Later, Webster, now 18, of the 6000 block of South Aberdeen Street, was identified as the shooter in a photo array and charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, prosecutors said.
He was arrested Tuesday and appeared at a bail hearing Thursday, where Cook County Judge Donald Panarese ordered him held in lieu of $600,000 bail.
Webster's attorney said his client is a high school senior, plays basketball and has a part-time cleaning job.
